Between offensives

May 1918 brings a pause on the British front as Ludendorff prepares his next blow. The previous two offensives have pushed the British back but failed to break the army. German casualties since March 21 exceed 350,000. The Allies use the respite to rebuild shattered divisions and absorb reinforcements. American troops are arriving in growing numbers, and the balance of forces is shifting. Ludendorff must strike again before it is too late.
