Feb 10th Still at Jenks Siding, Weather not very nice, too damp to be pleasant, we are still working in a tar paper hut for an orderly room, Fritz comes over and bombs near us most nights, but does not come real close to our shanty. Feb, 18th An advance party go to Chateau de la Haie, as we are to take over there from the 13th Cdn Field Amb: the 9th are to take over from us at Jenks Siding, in the advance party of the 9th is Robertson MacDonald, (the piker on my squad on two occassions) he is now a sergeant, but not very popular with the 9th.

Feb 19th. We all move off to Chateau de la Haie, there is no band and so I have to hump my pack, I march with Bert and “Spot”, Staff goes on the Ford with the Orderly room stuff. When we get to the Chateau we are put into the old orderly room, it has had a new roof since the last time

Brest-Litovsk negotiations

Peace talks between Russia and the Central Powers drag on at Brest-Litovsk. Germany's terms are harsh: Russia must surrender Poland, the Baltic states, Ukraine, and Finland. Leon Trotsky, the Bolshevik negotiator, refuses and walks out on February 10. Germany responds by resuming its advance into Russia. The German Army meets almost no resistance and advances hundreds of miles in days. Lenin overrules his colleagues and accepts Germany's terms.
