draw our money, we take the car into Bruay + put in a merry hour. at 9:30 we leave Fresincourt for Aubigny. Bill Thompson + Frank Thompson go with us to the station, a “wet” trip. Tuesday Dec 11. we hang around Aubigny untill about 2:45 AM the train is nearly an hour late, McLean + I scramble into an officers compartment + ride fairly comfortable to Boulogne where we arrive at 8:30. we go straight on board, we sail about 10 AM + arrive at Folkestone about 1 PM we leave there at 2:30 + arrive at Euston (via Victoria) at 5:30 PM. I get a clean up, shine shampoo, hair cut etc on Euston station. I leave for N’pton on the 6:55 P.M. + arrive at 9:20 to find Nance in bed, she gets up + gives me a feed etc, see Olive + Ken + then go to bed. Oh you bed. Tuesday Dec 11. Up about nine A.M.

Russian armistice

On December 15, 1917, an armistice is signed on the Eastern Front. Russia and the Central Powers cease hostilities. Peace negotiations begin at Brest-Litovsk on December 22. The end of fighting in the East has immediate consequences for the West. Germany begins transferring divisions from Russia to France. By spring, nearly 50 additional German divisions will be available for operations on the Western Front.
