Friday Sept 7 C. Section are relieved at the white chateau in Levin by B section of 2nd Field Ambulance they are glad to be away from Lens he is making it hot in Levin. I go up on the W.P + we all take our packs as we leave off work on the new hospital we hump our packs to Hospital corner, to clear the 2nd Div front the Levin trip was “extra” as the 9th got put out of action + we had to help them out. Sat Sept 8. W.P. Sunday Sept 9. B section now working the line. I go to Mass + receive H.C. at the Y.M.C.A tent near Hospital corner. I am then G.O. (general orderly). for the rest of the day. Monday Sept 10 to Sat Sept 15 I am the general orderly. Staff Surman says he would put me to try A + D work + I say I am quite willing. Sunday Sept 16. I am still general orderly. Full parade at 10 A.M. for promulgation of the sentence of Bo Ryan, he gets two years hard labour for

Russia collapses
September 1917 sees the final disintegration of Russian military power. The July offensive has failed, and the army is dissolving through desertion and mutiny. On September 3, the Germans capture Riga, a major Baltic port whose fall exposes the approaches to Petrograd. The Bolsheviks grow stronger as the Provisional Government weakens. Lenin, in hiding since July, continues to direct revolutionary activity. The war on the Eastern Front is effectively over.
