Sunday June 10. Tish + such-like come down. Capt Wall goes to Blighty on leave. Chippy still away + not coming back. No church for me.

Monday June 10. Heavy bombardment all day hear we go back to Chateau De la Hogue Still water cart detail.

Tuesday June 12. Horse amb + water wagon in Div show, we win. write to B. about her holidays, shell landed near us. unusual so far back.

Wed June 13 Still at Hospital corner doing water-cart detail Thursday June 14 The balloon at Hospital corner (near Carency) breaks loose. + nose dives + plays hell the guy gets roped into his basket

Friday June 15. Some fellows sent to the Chateau to take over

Messines secured

The Battle of Messines ends on June 14 with the ridge firmly in British hands. The operation is considered one of the war's most successful limited attacks, with clear objectives achieved at relatively modest cost. The victory at Messines is intended as a preliminary to a larger offensive in Flanders. Field Marshal Haig plans to break out of the Ypres salient and advance to the Belgian coast. Preparations begin immediately.
