have a stretcher case Killed. our dugout now has a full inch of mud in it. Tuesday Apl 10. first trip in a blizzard at 8 AM. Do a number of trips during the day. Cold, wet, & muddy & nowhere to sleep. Fritz’s shelling is not so heavy now, our guns have shut most of his up by now, get breakfast & dinner at the relay. no supper. & sleep all I have is one wet blanket in a full inch of mud but I sleep well. Wed Apl 11. Patients are not now so thick. the nights are awfully dark. Take out a few cases but unable to scran any grub. I am all plastered with mud, lost one puttee feel lousy as hell.

The 10th Brigade go over again on the left to take 700 yards of trench including “The pimple” Jack Cooper (S.B. 46th) a friend of mine is the first patient in, a sniper got him in the wrist. a little before this the 44th had to straighten out the 73 line & got into our barrage & suffered a few casualties.
