Baghdad falls

On March 11, British forces capture Baghdad from the Ottoman Empire. It is a significant victory after the humiliation of Kut, where a British force surrendered in April 1916. The Mesopotamian campaign will continue, but Baghdad's fall boosts Allied morale. On the Western Front, the strategic situation is shifting. The Russian Revolution threatens the Eastern Front. Germany is withdrawing to the Hindenburg Line. America is moving toward war. The spring offensives will determine the course of 1917.
