ankles in mud a couple of times got back at 1.30 PM. Jim Parnell gives me a bon dinner Green envelope stopped for the 12th. Thursday Feb 22 Hut orderley. nothing extra Friday Feb 23rd Gas guard & picked took a 46th man to Barlin. he died one mile from Barlin, no lights in the car. I was only orderly leave his body at C.C.S.

Sat Feb 24 Off till 4 PM. Swelled No 4 hut. Fetch a patient by car from Hersin took him to Four winds hospital near Estracusha. Sunday Feb 25 up early, went to Soldiers mass at 9.30. Gouey Servins receive general absolution & H.C. took a patient back to his lines, walking from 2. PM. until long after dark Monday Feb 26. Hut fatigue “Cranky Bill” & “Peterboro” had to be watched, got a bit obstrock & had to tie him down, later sent to C.C.S. Tuesday Feb 27. Off all day or supposed to be had to re clean vestibule of No 4

Russia on the brink

In Russia, the war has brought the Tsarist regime to breaking point. Food shortages, military defeats, and war weariness have eroded support for the government. Strikes are spreading in Petrograd. On February 23 (March 8 by the Western calendar), protests will begin that lead to revolution. The February Revolution will force Tsar Nicholas II to abdicate on March 2 (March 15). A Provisional Government will take power, pledging to continue the war. But the Russian Army's fighting capacity is collapsing.
