I am sure poor Belle will worry when she reads of our unit being in the thick of it. Very little water to be had & of course I go & get a whale of a thirst on Oct 23rd feel pretty tough & not very keen on my job, case to Mc’Inorville in morning Fritz bombarded the chateau all the afternoon, several direct hits a little hot tea for supper. 36 of the 13th Can Field Amb come in to relieve some of us, we try to wait until Fritz quits shelling the chateau but make a stab at getting thro about 10 PM. - run the gauntlet, get some jolly close calls but we all get thro. to the Quarries about 1 PM. Every one of us sick tired hungry, muddy, dirty. Sleep fairly well. Tuesday Oct 24 Wake up 9. AM & get a dandy box of fudge from Belle, slept on the floor of the dugout just as I came in, wet & mud Try to clean up. but it’s impossible. Our R.S.M tries again to fatigue me he is a typical Decoration Day soldier & does not knows there is a war on. (he is a phule) Wed Oct 25th. Parade to Tara Hill tent
