Sunday Aug 26 Working party Fritz shelled Angres heavy A.M. Twelve of us go up to Fosse 6 to get slag from the mine head. track blew up + we have to fell in a couple of direct hits on the track 15 foot holes. barrage goes over to Fritz at 7 P.M. rain all evening. Monday Aug 27. Working party at Heartbreak Jnct we must name this new hospital Vimy View as a good view of Vimy ridge is obtained from there. Tuesday Aug 28. After Hill 70

The Battle of Hill 70 ends on August 25. The Canadians hold the high ground overlooking Lens, though the city itself remains in German hands. Six Victoria Crosses are awarded for the fighting. At Ypres, the offensive resumes. General Plumer's Second Army takes over the main effort from Gough's Fifth Army and adopts a more methodical approach: limited advances with overwhelming artillery support rather than attempts at breakthrough.
