return to Chateau. Released from stand too at supper time.

Monday July 2 Relieved at Chateau by 10th Can Field Amb. we move to Four Winds for Divisional rest relieving No 5 Can Field Amb. The 11th come out of the line after doing two weeks. in the line they had 5 Killed + 5 wounded.

Thursday July 5th. This is the first Div rest since Dec 15. Play No 6 at Ball + win. Wed July 4 [?]. No 6 move out. + we get whole camp. Wed July 11. Band practice. Thursday July 15. Paid. Go out with Tom Scorer. Dicky Bird + Jack Taylor, nuff said. Sat July 14, Friday July 6. Go out with Tom Scorer Sgt Ransom (never again) Sat July 17. Rain all day. quite a lot of slop these days + pretty cool. Sunday July 18 Eliminate with No. 11 + 13 for divisional sports we get 3 wins 6 seconds, + share the baseball + football. Summer 1917

July 1917 is a month of preparation and reorganization. The Canadian Corps, having taken Vimy Ridge in April, is pulled back to rest and refit. Lieutenant-General Arthur Currie, who took command on June 9, is the first Canadian-born officer to lead the Corps. Meanwhile, Russia's war effort is collapsing. The Provisional Government launches a final offensive in July that fails disastrously. Soldiers desert by the thousands. The Eastern Front is crumbling.
