Between May 25 and June 10, the French official history records 45 separate mutiny incidents, compared to just 10 in the previous month. The crisis affects nearly half of the French infantry divisions on the Western Front. Petain responds with a mix of discipline and reform. Courts-martial convict 3,427 soldiers, with over 500 receiving death sentences. But only 49 are actually executed. Most are sent to disciplinary units or colonial prisons.
