The war at this time

The First Battle of Gaza

On March 26, British forces attack Gaza in Palestine. The assault nearly succeeds before being called off prematurely. A second attack on April 19 will also fail. Gaza will not fall until November 1917, after a third battle and the famous cavalry charge at Beersheba. The war continues on multiple fronts. In France, the spring offensives are imminent. In Russia, the Provisional Government struggles to maintain order. At sea, German submarines continue their toll. The outcome of 1917 remains uncertain.
