Final operations
The Battle of the Somme is nearing its end. The weather has turned cold. Rain gives way to sleet and snow. The mud freezes at night and thaws by day. Large-scale operations are no longer practical, but limited attacks continue to improve positions before winter. The eastern end of Regina Trench remains in German hands. The 4th Canadian Division is preparing for one final assault to capture the remainder. The attack is scheduled for November 10-11. After that, the Canadian Corps will be relieved.
