Eve of the attack

The assault on Regina Trench is scheduled for October 21 at 12:06 PM. The 87th and 102nd Battalions will attack behind a creeping barrage. Timing is critical: infantry must advance immediately behind the curtain of shells. If they fall behind, the barrage moves on and they face uncut wire and machine guns. The II Corps will simultaneously attack Stuff Trench to the west. If successful, the combined operation will secure Thiepval Ridge and straighten the British line. Over a thousand German prisoners are expected if all goes well.
