our dugout. Heaps of arms, legs feet etc all rotten. Was writing to Bell & Capt Greer told me it would not go, it was a waste of time for me to write. Get 200 Players cigarettes from chum Belle. I see Gus Margot on his way out of the trenches. I am ordered to Sunken Road R.A.P for 5 PM. spent the night at the Cemetery dug out & returning to Sunken Road at 7 AM in the rain when four fellows out of six hit on the ridge & the track blown up for 50 yards Sunday Oct 15. Slept quite a bit during the day. Fritz shelled us to beat the band, & then our guns gave him hell in & for it Fritz put a H E very near our dug out steps & spoiled the only water we had at the Sunken Road R.A.P. Kellock got his water bottle, tunic & shirt torn & was not wounded. Jack Grant got his puttee torn - lucky bunch - took all stretchers to the dressing station for the big push. slept on floor, dug out’s stink like the devil

The Battle of the Transloy Ridges
The Battle of the Transloy Ridges continues as British forces attack German positions east of Flers. Progress is measured in hundreds of yards at a time. The weather is deteriorating: rain, mud, and cold make every operation more difficult. Canadian forces are focused on Regina Trench in the northern part of the Somme sector. The trench has been attacked and partially captured multiple times. Each assault costs hundreds of casualties. The Germans counter-attack relentlessly to retake lost ground.
