May 30th Bath Parade to the Fosse Baths, the band leads.

May 31st Major Mothersill, his Sergeant, and the driver of the car get hit as they are coming through Lillers, so the Board he was convening had to be postponed,

May 29 I received the Sacrament of CONFIRMATION.

June, 2nd 1918. Attend Military Mass again at Auchel Parish Church, Captain (Arch-Bishop of B.C.) MacDonell Pronounces General Absolution and again I receive H.C. I go to Confession at 5.30 p.m. Auchel is not a bad place but at present all the boys are stoney broke, and it is a stock phrase “Lendus a Fin”, the weather is all that could be desired, nice and warm “A” &“B” Section get innoculation on the 2nd Bob Weaver is now in the Orderly Room, and he took the “jolt” for ‘s.

Germans approach Paris

By early June 1918, the German advance on the Aisne has pushed within 56 kilometers of Paris. The French government prepares to evacuate the capital. But the offensive is outrunning its supply lines. German casualties are heavy, reserves are exhausted, and the advancing troops find Allied supply dumps stocked with food and goods unavailable in blockaded Germany. Discipline breaks down as soldiers stop to loot.
