Mar 31st The left Sector is handed over to the 13th, that now leaves us with The Right Sector and The Cutting these two A.D.S’s take two whole sections to run them. “A” Section is at Anzin, there are a lot of casualties coming from the “supports” where we are stationed, Oh yes, This is a glorious place for a “bombproof” I dont think, Staff is living on his nerves and will break down as soon as the tension lifts. He shelled this camp every day we were there, and many of the boys had some very narrow escapes, I was always “jake” myself.

The front stabilizes

By the end of March 1918, the immediate crisis of Operation Michael is easing. The German advance has created a massive salient but failed to achieve a breakthrough. Both sides regroup. The Canadian Corps has been held in reserve near Arras during the offensive. Unlike the battered British divisions to the south, the Canadians remain relatively intact, a strategic reserve for the counteroffensives to come.
