Still breath badly feel tough. my heels are very tender + sore. loaf around all day + at dusk a lorry takes back what is left of the 103 that came up. It took five lorries to take us into this scrap, but we all get into one to go back. we leave 9 boys, a captain + a batman behind us to show the 5th the ropes. We reach the C.R.S at Holleboak + find a supper waiting for us. I could not eat any supper but I had some lovely mail to devour. The fellows who had not been in the line nearly shook our hands off to see us back. We sent 103 boys into the line + we had 47 casualties the chief ones I can now remember are. Passchendaele captured

On November 6, the 1st and 2nd Canadian Divisions attack Passchendaele. The 27th Battalion (City of Winnipeg) captures the village in under three hours. A final attack on November 10 secures the crest of the ridge. Currie had reportedly predicted 16,000 casualties. The Canadian Corps ultimately suffered approximately 15,654 casualties at Passchendaele, remarkably close to his estimate. Nine Victoria Crosses are awarded for the fighting. The Third Battle of Ypres is over.
